National Lighthouse Day
On August 7, 1789, Congress passed an Act for the establishment and support of lighthouse, beacons, buoys, and public piers. The Act also commisioned a lighthouse to be built at the entrance of the Chesapeake Bay. Two hundred years later, Congress passed a resolution designating August 7, 1989, as National Lighthouse Day.
